The Gissing Collection is proud and honored to share the legacy of a man who celebrated life in the west through the release of exclusive reproduction artworks and merchandise. Coming to Canada to Canada at age 18 in 1913, Roland Gissing became one of Western Canada’s most recognized landscape artists. Working on various ranches in the Calgary area, Gissing rode horseback through Montana as far south as Mexico before filing his homestead in 1923 west of Cochrane at the Ghost Dam. It was here that his art began to dominate his other activities.
A self taught artist who worked in all mediums, Gissing settled with oils exclusively. It is this medium that created the wheat fields, stooks, and ‘Gissing Blue’ mountains he is known for today.
